Chris Collins

Most of my work is creating 3D models and preparing parts for the injection-molding process.  I also have a hand in the mechanical design of future generations of Smart Grid Sensors. The best thing about this job is the exposure to real-life engineering applications and manufacturing processes that I do not receive hands-on experience with in the classroom.  I am present for all steps in the engineering process. From beginning a concept with a single idea, and collaborating with a team of engineers to come to a sensible and cost-effective solution---to consulting a company to view their recommended product for our application (whether it be adhesives, or electrical connectors, etc)---and finally holding the finished product in my hand, knowing that I was part of the team that made it all happen.  The lead engineers here do their best to pass their knowledge on to me.

I grew up here, I love it.  I think that Midwestern families in the United States have great values, and grow up learning to work hard and be successful.   There are so many opportunities in the Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus areas, especially for Engineers.  The field is still growing every year, despite the growing unemployment rates.  Wright-Patt AFB is the leading research base in the country...yet another reason for any Engineer or Scientist to work here. I live in Fairborn, and am within walking distance of school, work, and Wright-Patt AFB.

Angstron is one of the world's leading producers of graphine.  We produce and do experiments with the material.  I do testing on the materials and evaluate their performance.  I also explore applications for the materials. I really like the research aspect of this job, trying new things, learning, being able to apply new knowledge to improve our products.  I live in Fairborn and feel comfortable here because of living here while at WSU and completing my degrees.  I'm originally from Greenville, Ohio and I also liked the opportunity to stay close to family.

Angstron is the first advanced materials company to offer large quantities of ultra-thin, pristine nano-graphene platelets (NGPs). And we also apply this magic material in Li-ion battery and graphene based supercapacitors.  WE help companies engineer graphene solutions with mechanical, electrical and conductive performance advantages.   We help select the optimal materials and introduce graphene into their manufacturing process. My job is to produce graphene, evaluate raw materials and optimize reactive conditions.  I also conduct many tests and analysis in order to develop new materials and products used in the fields of battery and energy storage.

I like working with technologies that are previously not explored.  I am exposed to a wide variety of experiences that are valuable for personal and professional growth, which has helped my research objectives.  Ohio is a very peaceful state.  In Dayton we have a lot of good companies and research institutes. The opportunities for networking and professional development are exciting.  The Air Force base here n Dayton and UDRI make me feel like there are many cultural opportunities in this community.  I live near the University of Dayton and there are a lot of things to do around the college campus.

People to My Site is a leading provider of search engine marketing, pay-per-click campaign management, Web design and analytics, as well as other online consulting services. The company, which employs 29 Central Ohioans, helps clients realize the full potential of their websites by building better traffic and establishing an effective online presence.  Current clients include local and national brands such as Signs Now, Express Employment Professionals and Lexus. I'm responsible for creating and editing most customer communications, managing two client service reps (I help set their priorities and work closely with them to resolve any issues) and making sure our customers are satisfied. I also handle public relations for the company. What I like best about this job is my co-workers.  They are some of the most creative, intelligent and hard-working people I've ever been around. Plus, everyone is really nice and has a great sense of humor. And people can bring their pets to work. On any given day there could be as many as 5 dogs in our office!

I've been in Ohio all my life and I really couldn't see myself living anywhere else.  I love the mid-western vibe and pace of life.  I feel like you can have all the joys of big-city living (e.g. arts, theatre, parks, trendy restaurants, professional sports), with none of the hassle.  Plus, I never want to be more than a couple hours' drive away from my parents and all my Cleveland sports teams. My wife, Lisa, and I love New Albany because it's tranquil, it's a short drive to downtown Columbus, Easton and Polaris for all of our shopping and entertainment needs and the school system is great (we are expecting our first child in May 2011.

My job is to help Sibcy Cline explore ways of using social media that will enhance the experience for buyers and agents.  I also provide continuing education courses in social media for realtors.  People want communications in different ways - Gen x and Gen Y want to connect with people in different ways.  For example, younger home buyers would be very inclined to post photos of a house they were considering on Facebook. I love working for a company that's as committed to new forms of communication as I am. And I absolutely love taking my training and applying it to my work. I'm also an adjunt instructor at Xavier.   My wife and I are city people, so we bought a house in a pretty urban area.

I research/cold call prospective groups in the convention and tradeshow business, identify and reach out to the local community to help solicit meetings and conventions for Cincinnati.  As a former sales manager for a downtown restaurant, I saw the direct impact  that convention business brings to the restaurant's bottom line. I know my job directly impacts not only my former restaurant, but all restaurants, hotels, night clubs and many other businesses in the hospitality industry.  I love the energy of Cincinnati, it is very easy to connect to creative and innovative people who want to make Cincinnati a better place to live and work. I live in Clifton Heights and love my neighborhood because it is a very walkable area with great restaurants, bars, unique shops, including a bike shop for my last minute needs.  We make a point to know our neighbors through happy hours, events, neighborhood cleanups and other projects to improve our neighborhood.

We recently participated in Movember. The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember. Our entire staff of male employees grew mustaches in November.Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men's health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.We laughed a lot and had a great time raising money for a terrific cause! We raised over $2,000.

I am an Ohio native, but was hired / relocated to Silicon Valley in the late 80's. I spent 21 yrs. in San Jose and abroad, but it was having twin boys in 2007 that made me / us want to move back to raise them here. The cost and quality of living have improved significantly over that of living / working in California, not to mention I am much closer to my family now. My wife and I are both in high-tech, and are still able to contribute at the same levels that we did when we lived in Silicon Valley.

We recently moved to Brecksville, Ohio, about 15 miles south of downtown Cleveland.

My work at TeamDynamix involves designing, extending, and maintaining components of a web-based portfolio and project management (PPM) solution, as well as engaging in development work on related sites and desktop applications.  In many regards, it is similar to the work I would be doing as a full-time employee. My favorite part of my position is working with previously-unexplored technologies and determining how they can best be applied toward our business objectives.  My internship started through the NEWPATH program at Ohio State for those interested in IT entrepreneurship.  The NEWPATH program works with TechColumbus to find internships for students at TechColumbus-affiliated companies.  As an Ohio State student, I have been exposed to a wide variety of experiences and opportunities which have been invaluable for my personal and professional growth.  In addition, I enjoy the many different cultural offerings available in the  Columbus area.
