Most of my work is creating 3D models and preparing parts for the injection-molding process. I also have a hand in the mechanical design of future generations of Smart Grid Sensors. The best thing about this job is the exposure to real-life engineering applications and manufacturing processes that I do not receive hands-on experience with in the classroom. I am present for all steps in the engineering process. From beginning a concept with a single idea, and collaborating with a team of engineers to come to a sensible and cost-effective solution---to consulting a company to view their recommended product for our application (whether it be adhesives, or electrical connectors, etc)---and finally holding the finished product in my hand, knowing that I was part of the team that made it all happen. The lead engineers here do their best to pass their knowledge on to me.
I grew up here, I love it. I think that Midwestern families in the United States have great values, and grow up learning to work hard and be successful. There are so many opportunities in the Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus areas, especially for Engineers. The field is still growing every year, despite the growing unemployment rates. Wright-Patt AFB is the leading research base in the country...yet another reason for any Engineer or Scientist to work here. I live in Fairborn, and am within walking distance of school, work, and Wright-Patt AFB.
