570 jobs coming to New Albany, if aid approved


Three companies plan to bring a combined 570 jobs to New Albany, according to plans presented to the village council yesterday, reports The Columbus Dispatch.

The companies would move to the village's business park, contingent on receiving state aid.

Bank to anchor $6-million retail project, create 200 jobs, near Middletown


LCNB National Bank will anchor a new $6-million, 30,000-square-foot retail project, expected to include restaurants and offices on Interstate 75 and Ohio 63, reports the Dayton Daily News.

The bank, which is projected to bring 200 jobs, is scheduled to be completed by April, says John Westheimer, president and owner of Cincinnati Commercial Contracting, the project's developer.

Dayton feels impact of $93-million contract


As the 711th Human Performance Wing gears up to full strength at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a Texas defense contractor is preparing to open a Dayton-area office, reports the Dayton Business Journal.

Orvis Meador, co-founder and executive vice president of San Antonio, Texas-based Decypher Technologies Ltd., says his company has already a number of workers in Dayton to support a $93-million contract issued by the 711th Wing; now, he's cautiously optimistic his company will win more orders from the contract, spurring the need to open an office in the next 30 days and possibly hire additional employees.

SunCoke hiring soon -- $360-million project to create more jobs than expected


New jobs are headed to the area as SunCoke Energy officials said the company will begin hiring positions for its Middletown plant as soon as next week, reports The Middletown Journal.

SunCoke expects to begin begin hiring up to 18 supervisory positions for the new $360 million plant around Thanksgiving; the company also expects to hire 80 to 100 hourly workers.

Delphi plant considers expansion, adding more jobs


Delphi and the Vandalia city government are seeking $150,000 in Montgomery County assistance for a possible expansion at Delphi's last remaining local operation, reports The Dayton Daily News.

The project, valued at $7.5 million, may add 100 jobs � perhaps more � to the thermal and HVAC products plant on Northwoods Boulevard over the next two or three years, said Rob Anderson, Vandalia assistant city manager.

Duke Energy wants market rates in Ohio


Duke Energy has applied to convert its regulated utility rates to market rates in stages starting in 2012, reports the Charlotte Business Journal.

As part of that proposal, Duke plans to transfer all its Ohio power plants out of the utility into an unregulated affiliate.

FirstEnergy cancels biomass conversion plan on falling prices


FirstEnergy Corp. cancelled plans to repower part of a Shadyside, Ohio, plant to generate electricity with biomass, citing falling power prices, reports Dow Jones.

FirstEnergy said that expected power prices don't support its retrofit plan, and it will shut down two units at the plant by the end of the year. The 79 employees impacted by the shutdown will be offered other job opportunities within the company.

Ohio unemployment falls for 6th straight month


Ohio's unemployment rate slipped to 10 percent in September, continuing a steady retreat from March's 26-year high of 11 percent, reports the Associated Press.

"Six months of continuous decline definitely makes a trend," said Ben Johnson, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Lio Energy Systems receives $16 million in incentives for Columbus facility


Lio Energy Systems, a joint venture of CODA Automotive Inc. and China's Lishen Power Battery, will receive up to $15.9 million from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, reports Area Development Online.

CODA is planning to build a plant in Columbus to make lithium ion batteries for plug-in electric cars, potentially creating up to 1,000 jobs.

Navistar agrees to build heavy-duty trucks at Ohio plant


Navistar International Corp.'s new contract with the United Auto Workers Union gives the truck maker a green light to move production of heavy-duty vehicles to its Springfield assembly plant, reports Dow Jones.

Union members for six U.S. plants approved the four-year contract by a wide margin, giving the Illinois-based company major concessions. In return, the company agreed to minimal production volumes at its sprawling Springfield, Ohio, assembly plant, which has been severely under-used in recent years.

Honda plant in Ohio produces its 4 millionth vehicle


Associates at Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant reached a milestone on October 29 with production of their 4 millionth vehicle, a 2011 Honda CR-V, reports Reliable Plant.

Since starting local auto production in 1989, the East Liberty Auto Plant has manufactured a wide range of passenger cars and light trucks. The East Liberty plant currently employs 2,400 with the capacity to manufacture 240,000 vehicles per year.

A Cincinnati human resources professional known on Twitter as @HRMargo has started a movement called #HireFriday, which in a few short months has gone international with a focus on job seekers, reports Soapbox.

Margo Rose, a Hyde Park human resources professional who runs her own HR consulting business, started #HireFriday in February that allows those specifically looking to hire to find all potential applicants on Twitter.
