FirstEnergy cancels biomass conversion plan on falling prices


FirstEnergy Corp. cancelled plans to repower part of a Shadyside, Ohio, plant to generate electricity with biomass, citing falling power prices, reports Dow Jones.

FirstEnergy said that expected power prices don't support its retrofit plan, and it will shut down two units at the plant by the end of the year. The 79 employees impacted by the shutdown will be offered other job opportunities within the company.
