Our Energy Division is currently seeking a Senior Geologist with experience in field programs to join our Carbon Management and Sequestration team. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
Position Summary
Battelle's value proposition in carbon management covers a comprehensive suite of services ranging from strategy development to our leading industry position in implementation of geologic storage. We currently have a need for a full-time Senior Geologist to join our carbon management team to provide technical support to our geologic sequestration programs.
Position Responsibilities
• Screen for potential storage fields and estimate available capacity through assessment of seismic surveys, deep well logs, and bedrock geology
• Select appropriate storage site options through review of mineral rights, ownership and lease options, and existing pipeline/transmission right-of-ways supported by GIS-based evaluations
• Support acquisition of drilling, injection, and pipeline permits
• Perform reservoir characterization studies and testing activities for CO2 storage applications
• Provide expertise and modeling support for a variety of engineering and geologic aspects of deep well CO2 injection: calculations for injection rates and total quantities; identification and assessment of risks associated with CO2 storage, such as identification of vulnerabilities associated injection and storage, estimation of damage likelihood, estimation of costs of recovery from damage, identification of possible protective measures and their costs
• Provide expertise and support in the selection and execution of monitoring, verification, and accounting techniques, including surface and subsurface instrumentation suites and data analysis techniques
• Support preparation of proposals for geologic characterization of carbon dioxide storage opportunities for Battelle Energy Technology clients and successfully manage projects within time and budget constraints
• Successfully manage task assignments within time and budget constraints
• Interact with clients to convey results or present findings through briefings
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
• Master's degree in petroleum engineering, geologic sciences, or related discipline
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in geologic assessments for the oil and gas industry or CO2 injection programs
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums
• Familiarity with data interpretation and assessments of seismic surveys, deep well logs, and bedrock geology for CO2 storage projects
• Awareness of complex logging suites, including open-hole triple combo, cased-hole PNC/CBL, image logs, geomechanical logs, and coring
• Familiarity with complex structural geology, carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
• Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information essential
