Hackman Capital acquires 28 properties, 2.5 million sq. ft. in COL, CLE and CIN

Privately held real estate investment firms Hackman Capital Partners, LLC, of Los Angeles announced today the successful acquisition of a 28-building industrial real estate portfolio totaling 2,593,602 square feet. The transaction closed for the multi-tenant Ohio buildings on Friday, June 14.

ODSA accepting applications for IMAGE grant

The Ohio International Market Access Grant for Exporters (IMAGE) program is now accepting applications. All activities must be pre-approved in advance and executed no later than September 30, 2013.

IMAGE is a 50 percent reimbursement program designed to offset the costs associated with certain exporting initiatives. IMAGE is funded by the State of Ohio and the United States Small Business Administration as part of the National Export Initiative to double U.S. exports by 2015. The purpose of IMAGE is to increase exports and create jobs in Ohio by helping small businesses expand into new international markets.

Ohio Aerospace Institute to host Capital Forum in Cleveland

The Ohio Aerospace Institute will host the Aerospace Capital Forum On July 9 in Cleveland.

The forum will address why aerospace investments are important to industry growth. Panel discussions will focus on aerospace capital for large businesses and growth capital investments for entrepreneurs and small companies.

LEEDCo's Icebreaker wind energy project could power some homes in Avon Lake

Avon Lake residents may soon be able to harvest a portion of their home’s energy from the offshore winds of Lake Erie.

The Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo), a regional economic development corporation started in 2009, was granted $4 million from the Department of Energy and an additional $1 million from private partners in December to spur an offshore freshwater wind pilot project that called for the manufacturing of five to nine wind turbines placed in Lake Erie, seven miles off the coast of Cleveland.

Ohio could add as many as 67,000 new entrepreneurs as a result of the federal government subsidies made available to aspiring business owners through the Affordable Care Act, according to a new report from the Urban Institute.

Ohio to showcase aerospace products and services at Paris Air Show

Ohio will be represented in the 50th International Paris Air Show from June 17 to 23 by a delegation of aerospace manufacturers, universities, and aerospace advocacy organizations, as organized by The Ohio Aerospace & Aviation Council and JobsOhio. The State of Ohio’s booth will showcase the products and services of Precision Alloy Services, The Ohio State University, Renegade Materials, Maverick Corporation, SIFCO Industries, Inc., Tesla NanoCoatings Inc. and The University of Akron.

Avon�s Jenne Distributors Inc. looks to expand with 24 jobs

According to Avon Mayor Jim Smith, Jenne officials are looking to double the size of their 65,000 square-foot facility. The $5 million expansion is expected to create 24 full-time positions at the company. The hiring of 24 employees will add $1,920,000 to the company’s payroll over the next three years.

Jenne Distributors, headquartered in Avon, is a leading wholesale distributor of business telephony, data, audio and video conferencing, and security technology products.

TechPint: A mini-tech conference for Cleveland. In a bar. With pints.

On Thursday, June 20, the first TechPint event will be held in Cleveland at the Market Garden Brewery. This new event series will then be held every three months in drinking establishments across the city. TechPint will feature speakers that will shake things up for you and give you a chance to see how fellow innovators are progressing with new ventures. JumpStart and others boost Brecksville-based MOVABLE to $1.9 million

Brecksville-based MOVABLE has raised $775,000 that it will use to ramp up sales and improve its products--colorful plastic wristbands designed to help people track how physically active they are, and software they use to access that data.

MOVABLE received $250,000 of that total from JumpStart Inc. The rest came from about a dozen individual investors. The company has raised $1.9 million since it was founded in 2011.

FlashStarts partners Charles Stack and Jennifer Neundorfer will work with Oberlin College’s existing entrepreneur program throughout the year to provide guidance and mentoring to students. At the end of the program, one team will be selected for the Oberlin Entrepreneurship Fellowship at the FlashStarts Accelerator.

National Urban League seeks to address black jobless rate, chooses Cleveland to launch effort

Despite a slow descent in unemployment, the rate for African Americans remains the highest of any group, both in Ohio and nationally.

The National Urban League has picked Cleveland to launch a $100 million, five-year effort to address the situation.
