Dayton-based Van Hoose Associates Inc. is getting some traction with its software product and looking to raise $600,000 for its growth plans. The firm expects to get formal approval this month from the government on its off-the-shelf software product, FlowVU.

The Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Expo will be held Oct.10 at the Wright State University Nutter Center from 5 to 7 p.m. This free event is open to the public, although exhibitors must pay a fee. The chamber anticipates about 500 attendees and more than 60 businesses to participate.

The Dayton International Airport is getting a $4.2 million boost from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements. The FAA announced this week it awarded the grant for construction work at the airport.

Dayton-based CareSource says it will hire about 260 people over the next several months. A spokesperson for the downtown company confirmed it projects to add the jobs incrementally by Dec. 31, increasing the number of people employed there from 1,527 to 1,787.

Honda Motor Co. is upping its recent Ohio investments by another $215 million.

The automaker recently announced another round of upgrades and new construction at facilities in the state, including the addition of new powertrain technology and a technical training center at the Anna Engine Plant and a new 160,000-square-foot building in Marysville that will be home to new office space for Honda North America Services LLC, a new entity housing some jobs and functions relocating from California. It will have about 500 employees, Honda said.

An Ohio manufacturer looks to drive a revolution in the health care television market.

Springboro-based PDI Communication Systems Inc., which has about 110 employees, started production in the last week of a tablet-like Android-based bedside television for that industry. Also known as the PDI-TAB, it is being billed as the only 14” bedside healthcare-grade HD television of its kind on the market.

Venture capital investing in Ohio was up in the second quarter, even as numbers dipped nationally, according to a new report.

Nationally, $6.7 billion went to 913 deals. That’s down from $7.3 billion and 970 deals in the same quarter a year ago, according to the PwC/NVCA MoneyTree Report, which is based on data from Thomson Reuters. In Ohio, 20 deals accounted for $94 million of investment, up from 17 deals and $52 million a year earlier.

Stratacache, a provider of digital merchandising products and services, said earlier this week that it has purchased twin office buildings on Poe Avenue in Vandalia to serve as its expanding operations, support and sales centers. The company also said it anticipates hiring up to 100 new employees over the next three years to work in the buildings.

Officials say now is the time for developing a Xenia greenfield site into a 163.5-acre hub for civilian unmanned aerial systems development.

About 50 officials convened in a cornfield just south of Xenia Friday morning, and spoke of the potential civilian uses for UAS and UAV technology, notably for precision agriculture monitoring, geospatial and emergency responders. Officials from the city, county, and a number of Dayton businesses and organizations agreed that the potential could be huge.

The Ohio International Market Access Grant for Exporters (IMAGE) program is now accepting applications. All activities must be pre-approved in advance and executed no later than September 30, 2013.

IMAGE is a 50 percent reimbursement program designed to offset the costs associated with certain exporting initiatives. IMAGE is funded by the State of Ohio and the United States Small Business Administration as part of the National Export Initiative to double U.S. exports by 2015. The purpose of IMAGE is to increase exports and create jobs in Ohio by helping small businesses expand into new international markets.

Ohio could add as many as 67,000 new entrepreneurs as a result of the federal government subsidies made available to aspiring business owners through the Affordable Care Act, according to a new report from the Urban Institute.
