A Dayton software company is taking a new tack on an age-old problem for colleges: how to keep students on track for graduation. StudentZen, a web-based business founded in 2009, allows college counselors to track their school's academically at-risk students and stay on course for their degrees. Additionally, it helps college counselors keep an eye on off-campus distractions, the company says. The company's program, RetentionZen, features a case management system, an early alert system that lets college instructors provide input, and counseling journals and goals programs. The program was developed six years ago at Sinclair Community College in Dayton and at the close of 2009 had up nine community college systems.
