MesoCoat is advancing the next generation of coatings that will keep bridges, boats and other large steel structures free of corrosion for as long as 100 years. Formed in 2007, the Euclid-based subsidiary of Powdermet has patented PComP, an new coating designed to replace the noxious chrome-based applications that have been the mainstay of corrosion control. Initially developed for application within the aerospace industry to extend the life of components such as shafts, actuators and landing gears, the company says PComP has far-reaching uses on large steel structures and is working on new technology that will match the coating with nanocomposites coatings to be more easily applied. The company expects both the coatings and application technology to become available nationally in by 2011.
