HF Food Technologies has brought a new fat substitute to the marketplace. Today, Nutrigras is being sold through distributors and a number of restaurants are using the product. Developed by the US Department of Agriculture, Nutrigras -- HF Food's brand name for the mixture of starch, water and oil that was born as Fantesk -- can replace unhealthy fats in meats, pastries and other foods while preserving flavor, mouthfeel and reducing fat for consumers. Assisted with an initial $250,000 investment from JumpStart, HF Food Technologies is working primarily with beef, pork and more recently bakery products. HF Food Technologies is located in mid-town Cleveland, was formed in 2005 and in late 2010 had five employees.
