Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Cambridge is more than scenery. It's a little slice of American life.
Once famous for its glass manufacturing, glass collectors continue to bring tourism dollars to the area. Today, employment comes primarily from service industries such as health care and communications, but one thing has not changed: its colorful history. Among its native sons was Hopalong Cassidy, star of numerous cowboy flicks of the '20s, '30s and '40s (a museum there honors Cassidy, born William Boyd in 1895). The area also boasts the Living Word Outdoor Drama, billed as "Ohio's only passion play"; the largest park in Ohio (Salt Fork State Park); and a number of glass factories and other museums. It's also one of the few places visitors will ever find animals such as rhinos, banteng, Pere David's deer, bison, giraffes and oryx roaming the same fields, thanks to The Wilds, a 9,000-acre, one-of-a-kind conservation facility.
